Best Gaming Headsets With Detachable Microphone 2026: What Reviewers Agree On

Aggregated from 6 YouTube reviews · Updated 2026-10-20

Audeze Maxwell Wireless Gaming Headset (PlayStation version)

Across the revisited IGN review and the hands-on Headphones.com review, the Maxwell's clearest advantage is sound quality paired with unusually long real-world battery life. Its detachable boom mic has effective background-noise suppression, but the headset is heavy and the software is basic; choose it for sound first, not for the lightest all-day fit.

📊 Quick Comparison

💬 Reviewer Consensus

Common Pros

• Audeze Maxwell: reviewers praise detailed, well-balanced sound and effective positional cues (2/6 mention)
• Audeze Maxwell: long real-world battery life, around 80 hours in the IGN review and over 80 hours reported by Headphones.com (2/6 mention)
• Logitech G PRO X 2: comfortable fit and sturdy construction in hands-on use (2/6 mention)
• HyperX Cloud III: detachable boom mic delivers clear, intelligible voice in RTINGS testing (1/6 mention)
• EPOS H6PRO: removable magnetic boom mic and lighter-feeling fit are praised in hands-on review (1/6 mention)

Common Cons

• Audeze Maxwell: heavy at roughly 490-500g, which remains the most consistent comfort caveat (2/6 mention)
• Audeze Maxwell: Audeze HQ software and sidetone behavior are weaker than its audio performance (2/6 mention)
• Logitech G PRO X 2: microphone quality is only adequate and the soundstage feels narrow (1/6 mention)
• Logitech G PRO X 2: limited noise isolation and a sparse physical control set noted in testing (1/6 mention)

⚠️ Real-World Pain Points (from hands-on reviews)

• Maxwell wearers must contend with a genuinely heavy headset; IGN's reviewer weighed it at 490g, though they did not find it uncomfortable after extended sessions, while Headphones.com likewise calls out its roughly 500g weight.
• Maxwell's strap adjustment uses a small number of fixed positions and was described by IGN as awkward to dial in; its Audeze HQ app also offers limited customization, according to both IGN and Headphones.com.
• The Logitech G PRO X 2's microphone did not impress Tom's Hardware, which described it as mediocre, and RTINGS also flags poor noise isolation—worth considering if clear voice capture or a shared, noisy room is your priority.

🔍 Detailed Breakdown

Audeze Maxwell Wireless Gaming Headset (PlayStation version)

IGN's 2025 revisit describes the Maxwell as still a top-tier sound performer and reports about 80 hours from a charge, including several days of long sessions. The reviewer found the 490g weight noticeable on paper but not uncomfortable in extended wear once fitted; the suspension strap's limited adjustment is awkward. Headphones.com likewise praised its tuning, build and battery life, while criticizing its weight, clunky software and sidetone behavior. IGN also observed strong keyboard-noise rejection from the boom mic, though sidetone hiss remained a small annoyance. The older Headphones.com review was not counted as recommending evidence in the 2026 aggregate; the recommendation count reflects IGN and the reviewed-product positive verdicts only where applicable.

microphone: Detachable boom microphone

driver: 90mm planar magnetic

Best for: Best sound and long wireless sessions - $250-300

Logitech G PRO X 2 LIGHTSPEED Wireless Gaming Headset

Tom's Hardware found a sturdy metal-and-plastic build, comfortable moderate clamp and good gaming sound after hands-on testing. The same review says the mic is merely adequate and the soundstage is narrow, and it questioned the value at the original premium price. RTINGS also calls the fit very comfortable and battery life long-lasting, but notes weak noise isolation and limited controls. These reviews converge on reliable comfort and gaming performance, not a standout microphone or an especially spacious presentation.

microphone: Detachable boom microphone

battery_life: Up to 50 hours (manufacturer claim cited by reviews)

Best for: Comfortable wireless gaming and sturdy construction - $180-250

HyperX Cloud III Wired Gaming Headset

RTINGS' hands-on review reports a clear, full-bodied voice from the detachable boom mic and good sound directionality, making this a practical wired choice. Its straightforward design avoids battery management, but the experience is less flexible than wireless alternatives. This is a value-oriented fit for players who prioritize a usable mic and broad wired compatibility over wireless convenience; the cited review does not provide a star rating.

connection: 3.5mm analog, USB-A and USB-C wired

microphone: Detachable boom microphone

compatibility: PC, PlayStation, Xbox, Switch and mobile (connection support varies)

💡 suction power unit — 20,000Pa is strong, 35,000Pa is the current max

EPOS H6PRO Closed Acoustic Gaming Headset

World Wide Stereo reports hands-on use of the closed-back version and highlights its lighter feel versus earlier EPOS models, replaceable parts and easy-to-remove magnetic boom arm. Its closed cups are intended to help isolate the player and reduce sound leakage. This is a wired headset with no battery or wireless latency to manage, but its closed design trades the more open, airy presentation of the open H6PRO variant for isolation. The retailer review is positive but does not assign a numeric rating.

connection: Wired analog

microphone: Magnetically detachable, lift-to-mute boom mic

design: Closed-back acoustic design

Best for: Wired play in a noisy room, with a removable mic - $100-180
